Summer is filled with so many opportunities for our residents to be outside enjoying the weather, gardening, and activities. One of our recent activities involved our pet pig named, Olive. The Ranch’s animal therapist, Karissa, brought Olive up from the barn on one beautiful day so all of the residents could sit outside and learn all about Olive and of course, reminisce about their own stories of pigs.
Lakeview Ranch has recently been the recipient of a great donation and membership of a great cause! A fantastic organization known as Alive Inside Foundation has connected music and those who have dementia. Often times caregivers will say that those who have dementia tend to really gravitate toward music and in fact, will remember all of the lyrics to songs as well as their melodies.
Alive Inside provides headphones and a specialized program that creates playlists specifically generated for seniors and those with dementia. Therefore, residents at Lakeview Ranch will each (because of our wonderful donors) have their own headphones with specific music playlist that is generated based on their likes, age group, experiences, etc.
We graciously thank a group of local residents who donated money for this specific cause. We also thank Alive Inside with all of their work and dedication for those with memory loss. See the information below about Alive Inside:

At The Alive Inside Foundation we believe Music and Human Connection have wisdom for all of us. Music’s gift is more than just headphones on elders. Music is an “Empathy Revolution,” and was invented by humans to bring together community. AIF wants an “Empathy Revolution” in eldercare and education, while also creating a more “dementia aware” culture. The increase in loneliness and the decrease in empathy in our culture is wrong and must be reversed. AIF provides a forum for the creation of open-source education and tools, in service of a more empathetic future, a future where aging and growing up are humane!
Alive Inside Goals:
- Change the way aging is viewed and wisdom transference is experienced.
- Inspire youth to find value in aging and in connection with elders.
- Inspire the finding of purpose for youth.
- Fight an epidemic of loneliness, boredom, and disconnection in both Elders and youth.
- Improve communities and create space for sustainable core values.
- Create and Implement “CommUniversity” models for Eldercare.

It is almost Give to the Max Day at Lakeview Ranch on Thursday, November 17th!!! Please consider giving a donation in order to assist the Ranch in doing what industry standards do not do:
- Providing a home environment located in rural Minnesota for those with memory loss.
- Accepting those that other facilities have denied admission.
- Use of alternative therapies: animal therapy, music therapy, art therapy, and aromatherapy.
- Taking one of the highest ratios of medical assistance clients as compared to other Assisted Livings in the state of Minnesota.

Lakeview Ranch’s page!
What is it? Give to the Max Day was created in 2009 to launch GiveMN, a collaborative venture led by Minnesota Community Foundation and many other organizations committed to helping make our state a better place.
Why Lakeview Ranch? Did you know that on average memory care assisted livings only accept 10% of their residents on medical assistance? Lakeview Ranch is the exception and currently, we have 60% of our residents on a waiver. Health care costs do not change and because of our commitment to serving those with dementia, we must fund raise in order to subsidize what the costs are versus what the reimbursement is.
How and when to give? Even though the state of Minnesota’s official Give to the Max day is November 17, 2016, Give to the Max helps non-profits such as Lakeview Ranch raise money all year long, but more specifically, The Ranch opened up our 2016 Give to the Max today: Monday, September 12th in order to create momentum for November 17th! Our hope is we can continually raise money every day with a culmination of a big celebration on November 17th.
Incentives? There are incentives to giving early as well. For instance, organizations like ourselves can earn Golden Tickets (worth $1,000) and/or Super-Sized Golden Tickets (worth $10,000). We increase our chances by individuals giving—doesn’t matter how much or how little they give—this simply puts us in the running!
